Solar Panels For Residential

Tag:SolarPanelsForResidential | Solar Panels For Residential

The rapidly escalating cost of commercial electrical power has been the catalyst for the appearance of an increasing number of residential solar power panels on neighborhood rooftops. Homeowners have finally realized that costs are not going to lessen, that the fossil fuels are damaging our environment, and that residential solar panels provide clean and green power at no cost. The panels that generate this solar power do so through the magic of photovoltaic cells. Unfortunately, most homeowners do not understand how these systems work, how to set them up, and how much they cost. The following paragraphs should help to fill some of that knowledge gap.

How Do Residential Solar Panels Work?

Photovoltaic cells are the working components of any solar panels for residential use. These small solid-state devices are energized by direct sunlight to emit electrons which is a low level DC current. They are small modular devices with output wires for interconnecting them into a matrix of cells. The output of a single photovoltaic cell is unquestionably a scientific wonder, but not terribly impressive. When, however, a large number of these photovoltaic cells are interconnected into a matrix and assembled into a solar panel for residential use, their combined output becomes a significant source of electrical energy. By combining a number of these individual panels into large arrays, you can generate as much electricity as you want, limited only by cost and available space for mounting.

Should You Buy or Build Residential Solar Panels?

How often have you heard someone say, if I only had enough money, I could save money? The feeling is universal amongst middle-class homeowners. The cost of technology that can save money in the long run, is too expensive to consider in the short run. If you're one of the fortunate few who find that money is no object to your family, by all means buy the best commercially built system that you can find and have it professionally installed. This option can cost a bundle for setup and installation, but that initial cost will be recouped eventually over the life of the system through monthly savings on the electric bill. If, however, the high initial costs are preventing you from installing a system, consider the alternative of building and installing your own residential solar panel s system for only hundreds of dollars, and enjoying the resulting cost savings in a very short period of time.

You needn't be an engineer or a techno-geek to be able to build an excellent system. It's not rocket science. Although the systems are technologically sophisticated, they are quite simple in construction. All you need are common household hand tools, a modicum of handyman skills, a good step-by-step guide, and a little free time. You can build and install a working, money-saving system of residential solar power panels in only a few busy weekends.

A good do-it-yourself book of instructions is critical to your success. Excellent guides are available at most book stores, at local building supply stores, and from the Internet. The best ones provide adequate graphics and visual aids to ensure that your system is one of excellent quality. Once you have all the materials, the work space, and the time you'll be only a few weekends away from having your own home built system of residential solar power panels providing your family with free and green electrical power.
